A "flag” is a notification designed to raise awareness that a student is not meeting expectations.  老师可以在个别学生身上举旗, 适合学生团体, 或者通过进度调查. 学生、指导老师和学术顾问会收到国旗.

Flags should not replace a quality conversation that can be had with a student during or after class, but are intended to create opportunities for communication and 协作 among students, 顾问, 教师, 和工作人员. Flags help create a holistic picture of student progress and experience in order to provide appropriate supports.

  1. Academically at-risk: use this when you are concerned about the student’s standing in your course.  If you have several issues with a student, this may be the most appropriate option.

  1. I need help in a course: students can use the 指南针 system to alert a 教师 member that they need help in a course. This creates a new flag for your record keeping and will alert you with an email. The 教师 member should respond to the student when the notification is received.

  2. I need help: Students can submit this flag when they know they need help but aren’t sure where to go to access that help.  指南针 lets the student know that an email will go to their advisor to share the concern.  It is important that 顾问 be in touch with the student upon receiving that notification to offer support and connect the student with appropriate campus resources.

Kudos give 教师 和工作人员 the opportunity to provide students with positive feedback. Helping students celebrate their progress and learning can make a big difference in their experience. Kudos can be sent by 教师 for specific classes and by staff and 顾问 to recognize students for their efforts.

  1. Keep up the good work: You can use this kudo to recognize students who are performing well in your course.

Unlike flags, you don’t have to be concerned with “closing” or “resolving” kudos.  当工藤被提交时, a student will receive an email notification and it will be recognized on their 指南针 page. Kudos become part of your tracking history and will be automatically resolved every two weeks for your convenience.

完成进度调查

Progress surveys are opportunities for 教师 to communicate to students and their 顾问 about student's progress in that class. Twice a semester, a progress survey is sent to all 教师 teaching undergraduate classes. 教师分享对学生的反馈有三种选择:   

  1. 标记出值得关注的学生并生成一面旗帜.
    • This will create a flag that is sent to the student, the 教师 member, and the academic advisor(s). 
  2. 注意一个学生做得很好.
    • “Showing Improvement” or “Keep up the good work” will generate a Kudos sent to the student

    • This means the student is progressing as they should and is currently meeting expectations.
